“Singing is a basic, human activity as fundamental to our well-being as, say, laughter.”
Prospective Member FAQs
What is the minimum age to become a member? 18 years old, unless participating with a parent, guardian, relative or Chapter Board of Director approved sponsor.
What are the steps to making membership official? Potential members are required to attend 3 out of 6 consecutive rehearsals. Then an audition will be scheduled. You will sing one of the chorus songs, with the other 3 voice parts, for the director and music team. After passing the audition you will meet with the President and Membership Coordinator to discuss all that is involved in being a member of Bluegrass Harmony including your expectations of the chorus and the chorus' expectations of its members. After the meeting, the new member application will be reviewed with chorus members for a chapter vote.
I can't commit to every Thursday evening. Are there attendance requirements for the members of Bluegrass Harmony? Bluegrass Harmony tries to remain flexible as we realize people are pulled in many directions. Our members are expected to attend as many rehearsals as possible and to work on their music in their own time. It is up to the discretion of the director and the music team to determine if a member is prepared enough to perform or compete with the chorus.
What about finances? We collect monthly dues from our members to pay their Harmony Inc. membership fees and to cover operational costs. We also hold fundraisers throughout the year to help offset member expenses including travel and costumes. Bluegrass Harmony strives to make membership affordable while maintaining the level of excellence our members and audience have come to expect.
